About the #SpeakUpforCOPD campaign
We have one critical goal: to increase the awareness and understanding of COPD amongst policymakers and healthcare decision-makers.
Why do we need to Speak Up for COPD?
COPD affects approximately 384 million people4 around the world and is the third leading cause of death5
1 in 5 people will die within a year of their first COPD hospitalisation.6
Despite the huge burden and the fact that survival from COPD is comparable to some cancers, no one talks about it.7-9 As a result, COPD is under-prioritised, underfunded, and undertreated.10-13
The global cost of COPD is estimated to rise to US $4.8 trillion in 203014but it does not receive the political attention or funding proportionate to its population and societal burden.13
The world can no longer afford to overlook COPD. We need greater recognition of the impact of COPD on individuals and society to ensure people living with this disease receive the care they need and deserve.
