October is one of my favorite months for so many reasons! I hope you have had a productive month as well as we turn into the final months of 2024.
This month we welcome two new members from Colombia, Nepal, Gambia and Norway… we now have 147 organizations!
We also highlight the work of HAP Carabobo with the support from GAAPP Impact Funds who opened a clinic in Venezuela for the holistic monitoring and rehabilitation of pulmonary hypertension patients following the needs of lack of access to care in the country given its political situation. Hundreds of patients will have now access to care thanks to this efforts and the healthcare professionals that will be donating their time at the clinic. Keep up the great work!
GAAPP organized and hosted the first World Chronic Cough Day on October 15. Listen to the webinar if you missed it and don’t forget to claim your communications grant for amplifying information about this underrepresented disease.
GAAPP leadership presented at World Patients Alliance in Cape Town and the board finalized our 2025 Strategic Plan. We will host a webinar in early January to reveal the full scope of work for 2025. Vildana and I also had the privilege of attending ISAD in Doha where we learned the latest in science of atopic dermatitis and collaborated with several GlobalSkin leaders. It truly is an exciting time in this world of atopic and airway diseases!
Please let us know how we can continue to support your organizations.
All my best Tonya

COPD and Alpha-1 antritrypsin deficiency Awareness Month
Both COPD and Alpha-1 antritrypsin deficiency share November as Awareness Month! We thank all our member organizations who work tirelessly in these conditions to improve outcomes for those affected. GAAPP continues our awareness, education, advocacy, and research efforts to improve the lives of people with Alpha-1 and COPD and their families.
A few updates on our work in this space:
We are excited to tell you about a new resource! GAAPP worked with partners in creating the COPD Patient Map, an advocacy tool that can be used to highlight barriers encountered by those with COPD, the implications of those barriers, and calls to action for decision makers. Read more about the tool and download it in our new blog post.
Coming soon! In November, we will be adding Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency educational information to our website. You will be able to find this at GAAPP.org under the Diseases menu.
Be sure to check out our social media feeds for more information during this awareness month, including important messaging from Speak Up for COPD. If you have not yet read the new Global State of COPD Report, be sure to take a look. Check our social media soon for 10 COPD country-specific profiles: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Malaysia, Nigeria, Poland, Saudi Arabia and the UK.
GAAPP also participated in the development of the COPD Index, a free tool from the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies, that aims to improve COPD care and prevention through increasing awareness, driving action, and strengthening commitment from decisionmakers. Visit respiratoryhealth.org to download the full report.
