From the President’s Desk

As we head into the holiday season, I hope you are looking forward to festivities filled with family, food & fun! I will spend the season with family in Louisiana, Mississippi & Tennessee. The GAAPP offices will be closed 23 December to 3 January for the staff to celebrate.

We all should be incredibly proud of the 2022 achievements. GAAPP grew to nearly 90 member organizations.

We hosted high-quality virtual & in person events like the Global Respiratory Summit & the Global Food Allergy Summit. We grew our internal capacity and supported our members’ growth via GAAPP Academy, coffee chats, the Scientific Meeting and more. We donated over 50,000 euro to support member projects to raise awareness, educate & advocate!

The BOD met this week & crafted our 2030 Strategic Roadmap which we will share in January with all of you. Many positive days are ahead for GAAPP & I am so thankful to lead this passionate group of global patient advocates in allergy, airways & atopic diseases.

COPD Patient Empowerment: Scientific evidence and quality of life

This recently launched project aims to support decision-making in respiratory health based on scientific evidence and the daily life of COPD patients. A multi-stakeholder group reviewed, selected, and synthesized 17 publications and organized them into 12 main topics.

New GAAPP Twitter Account

In early November, our Twitter account was hacked, and as a consequence, Twitter suspended it indefinitely, As a result, GAAPP has created a new account that also matches our handles in all the other social media channels @gaapporg. We want to request that you follow us there and share with your colleagues and community, so we can have a head-start in achieving the levels of engagement that we had before with your team and patient community.

SAREAL 2022

As part of the Latin American Paediatric and Adult Pulmonary Hypertension Symposia, the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute (PVRI) invited GAAPP and Latin Health Leaders to conduct a patient event to enrich the perspective of the scientific program and bring the patient voice to the healthcare professionals. 15 patient advocacy groups that are current and prospective members were invited to participate in a 2-day summit on October 22-23, 2022 in Panama. The Caravan of Atopy

Our Serbian member, Alergija i ja, was financially supported by GAAPP to conduct this successful project to provide allergy and asthma patients in Serbia with timely and adequate information about the diagnosis and treatment. Six workshops were conducted in: Subotica, Kikinda, Jagodina, Nis, Kragujevac, and Uzice, lasting 90 minutes. A team of 4 Alergija i ja members conducted the workshops with 2 specialist doctors.

Fundación Ayúdanos a Respirar

Our Colombian member (FAR) conducted 4 Seminars and activities of awareness, screening, early diagnosis, and control for Nasal Polyps and Pulmonary Hypertension, Asthma, and respiratory diseases. This event was supported by a GAAPP funding request.
