From the President’s Desk

How quickly time is flying by! Unfortunately, many of us in the Northern Hemisphere are in the midst of extreme heat waves & record high reports of respiratory flares. I hope you are healthy and doing well wherever you are in the world today!

We are gearing up for our Global Respiratory Summit, which will be held on 8 September in Milan. The registration deadline is approaching quickly, so we hope you will join us in person for this important event.

We also are excited to announce several new team members to support our continued growth as the leading global patient voice in respiratory & immunology.

First, the BOD has appointed me as acting CEO. As most of you know, I have over twenty-five years of experience in this field & have served the past five years as the elected President of GAAPP. I will continue in the selected role while serving the GAAPP community in the appointed role.

Next, Victor Gascon Moreno has been promoted to Vice President of Awareness & Operations. Victor will continue to lead all programs while overseeing the organization’s daily operations alongside the BOD. He will work closely with all regional representatives & partners to deliver on our key performance objectives.

Finally, Špela Novak is joining GAAPP in the role of Member Support. Špela will lead all member communications & support all GAAPP event planning. Join me in congratulating all!

In this newsletter, don’t miss any critical updates & opportunities to advance your mission & the work of GAAPP. We will vote next month on new BOD members and have several world-awareness days for you to amplify across your community in the coming weeks. We also spotlight the work of our latest organization from Malta and celebrate the success of the WCD celebrated in Singapore and the ACUF Nigeria conference that will be held in 20 July, both with participation from GAAPP.

Overall, this continues to be a record-setting year on many fronts, and we appreciate the continued support & engagement from each of you!

GAAPP News

As part of the A16 ALAT Congress, GAAPP and Latin Health Leaders will conduct the second SAREAL event to bring together more than 20 Latin American Patient Advocacy Groups working on airways, allergic and atopic diseases. This patient event will also enrich the scientific program’s perspective and bring the patient voice to the healthcare professionals in 2 sessions hosted by patient advocates in the scientific program. SAREAL 2023 will be a 2-day summit on August 11 and 12, 2023, in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic.

Board nominations are closed

The period to submit a nomination for a board of directors candidate has been closed. We thank you all who applied; we are very grateful for the number of submissions we have received.

As soon as the board reviews applications, we will send an email with the instructions for our members to vote for the candidates.

“Harmonicas for Health”, now available in Spanish

GAAPP proudly supported the Spanish translation of the COPD Foundation program “Harmonicas for Health” to make this program available to a wider audience world-wide. This program has demonstrated the potential to improve health of individuals living with COPD.
